To the Queen of my heart,
I know you are in a better place but there are so many more stories to tell, riddles to learn, photos to share and memories to be made.
Thank you for raising me in my toddler years...my fondest memories are those playing by the well, watching the chickens in your backyard, riding with you on your bike.
Kampung life is so far from where we are now, but I still loved it. Walking around barefoot, watching cows make their way across the basketball court, walking out to the street to buy breakfast. I will miss all of that.
Thank you for teaching me all the little things - the Chinese rhymes and how to play "Fishing" - no one else could have done it.
I will miss your good cooking.
I will miss how you soak your feet in hot water every morning.
I will miss sitting with you watching t.v - you loved to watch the TVB dramas, but at 3pm you'd watch Indian movies and every time you'd tell me how they like to sing, cry and dance around trees.
I will miss you making me drink hot tea with bees to cure a cough, even though I silently threw it down the sink.
I miss you.
You were there when I thought no one cared, and you were there to catch me when I fell. You will always be in my thoughts, in my payers and for always, you will have a special place in my heart.

hi
ReplyDeletei randomly reached your blog and read the lovely poem on your grandma.this is an emotion many of us share.grandparents give us unalloyed love and affection without expecting anything in return. i recently read a book " a cup of comfort for grandparents".i enjoyed reading it. it appears that you have not visited india.a country rich in culture and traditions. and for your profession there is a goldmine awaiting you in our country.
Dear gs,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words. I will definitely keep a look out for the the book you mentioned and hopefully make a trip to India in the future. I have heard exotic tales from there and I am sure India will inspire me in many ways.
