A Rainy Day In...

It's a Sunday afternoon (one hour earlier than usual), the sky is grey and the air is chilly outside. I'm curled up in my wing chair in my newly decorated apartment (promise I will blog about this in the next few days) and I can finally write about someone's happiness halfway around the world.

We met more than 10 years ago as school girls. We couldn't be more different but we became the best of friends. We grew up, moved to different cities and in the past we've managed to catch up on a year's worth of our lives over a few hours in transit.

About a year ago she made me cry when she appeared on the television at my twenty first giving a speech and about a year ago too, she met a Dutchman.

As much as I'd like to be there to support and check out the new love interest of a best friend, it isn't a luxury we have being so far apart. So through the MSN conversations, all I knew was that the Dutchman was very tall and very lovely. But a few weeks ago, I got an e-mail where I was officially introduced to him (virtually). I was asked to create, as an anniversary present, a necklace with a locket which holds the "two heroes in her life". I thought it was awfully sweet, but further conversations proved him to be a keeper.

The piece had to include a bit of blue and gold to remind her of Brunei's beaches and the gold-domed mosques and a touch of brown was necessary to complement her beautiful brown hair.

For me, design is always the hardest part. Now that that's done, all I had to do was create! I thought if I were to charge someone for something, they should get the most out of it. So I decided to use the design but add something strategic to it. In the end, I created a three tier necklace with each layer detachable and the locket can be worn as a brooch so that she has her two heroes close to her heart, always.
